About Us: We operate and maintain 40 swimming pools and 23 splash pads throughout the County of Los Angeles. We are looking for individuals to join our team who care about ensuring all our aquatics facilities are safe and maintained at the highest levels of operating efficiency.

CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS:
Under general supervision of the Regional Recreation Director of Aquatics or subordinate recreation manager, the Aquatics Maintenance Technician performs skilled journey-level work in the inspection, maintenance and repair of aquatic equipment and facilities including swimming pools, splash pads, lakes, fountains and water features. Positions allocated to this class also test and maintain aquatic facility water quality as required by health codes and safety standards.
Essential Job Functions
Coordinates and implements an annual preventative maintenance program by maintaining accurate maintenance records, including plans, specifications, maintenance manuals, water quality reports, completed work orders and preventative maintenance schedules.

Assists with planning and scheduling of aquatic related maintenance with daily testing and treatment of water for public aquatic facilities including performing ongoing tests for chlorine, pH balance, calcium hardness, total dissolved solids (TDS), and total alkalinity; treating water with chemicals to maintain safe and healthy water quality; and monitoring chemical usage.

Maintains and/or coordinates services on pool heating systems, pumps, motors, filters, chemical injectors, and chemical controllers and calibrates and repairs all chemical and water related aquatic equipment such as water flow meters and valves and performs proper backwashing procedures.

Maintains inventories of essential parts, equipment and chemical supplies for efficient aquatic facility operation. Assists in requisition of equipment and supplies.

Controls remote maintenance and operation of energy management systems and chemical controllers.

Ensures compliance with state and local health codes and safety standards and other applicable regulations for the safe operation of public aquatic facilities.
Reports and logs safety incidents and malfunctions to the Regional Recreation Director of Aquatics or a higher-level manager.

Initiates service requests for support services.

Trains staff in pool operation and maintenance.

Assists journey-level trade positions performing installation work for more difficult repairs, as needed.

Assists in the annual training and recertification of lifesaving staff to ensure proper policies and procedure are followed in the maintenance of aquatic facilities, as needed.
Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Two years of experience in operating, maintaining, and repairing public aquatic facilities.*

LICENSE:
Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Class C California driver's license or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job related essential functions.

-- Certified Pool Operator's (CPO) license or Aquatics Facility Operator's (AFO) certification;**
-- Valid American Red Cross Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification;**
-- Valid American Red Cross Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification;** and
-- Valid American Red Cross First Aid certification**

PHYSICAL CLASS: 3 - Moderate. Includes standing or walking most of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching; includes working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting objects weighting over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification or the ability to obtain this certification within 12 months of appointment.***

A NAUI, PADI or Los Angeles County SCUBA certification, or the ability to obtain such certifications within 12 months of appointment.***

Confined Space Certification is required within 12 months of appointment.***

Examination content : This examination will consist of structured interview covering training and experience, weighted 100%, including knowledge in the methods and use of tools, equipment and chemicals used to repair and maintain public swimming pools.

A passing score of 70% or higher is required to be placed on the eligible list.

Eligibility Information : The names of candidates receiving a passing score in the examination will be placed on the eligible list for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.
