The Job

The Department of Public Health is recruiting for a Health Informatics Specialist who assists in gathering and evaluating healthcare data; creating, updating and administering trainings to clinical and non-clinical related staff on the Electronic Health Records (EHR) system. Assists with quality management activities specific to care provided by clinical personnel and collaborates to improve EHR healthcare service delivery; performs other duties as required.

Travel: Travel throughout the county may be required. Employees may be required to make provision for transportation and use personal vehicles (mileage reimbursement is available). A valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be provide at time of hire and maintained throughout employment.
Licensure/Certification: All required licensure and certification must be obtained prior to employment start/hire date, and must be maintained through the duration of employment.
Background Check: Applicants selected for this position must pass a background investigation including verification of employment history and education as well as a physical exam and drug screening.

Minimum Requirements

Licensure/Certification: Applicants must possess and maintain both of the following items:

  • Valid Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license issued by the State of California -and-
  • Valid Healthcare Provider level Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate issued by the American Heart Association.


Option 1: Three (3) years of experience as an Licensed Vocational Nurse in Electronic Health Records (EHR) Systems, quality management and performance improvement.


Option 2: Five (5) years of experience as an Licensed Vocational Nurse in a clinical setting.

Desired Qualifications

  • Development and modification of a computerized health record system
  • Strong communication skills for training and education of technology/ EHR workflows to a healthcare team
  • Athenahealth EHR System user
  • Microsoft Office programs
  • Data management and analyzing
