The Position

The City of Riverside is accepting applications for the position of INSTRUCTOR to fill multiple vacancies in the Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department . The eligibility list established may be used to fill the current and/or upcoming vacancies within this classification for up to six (6) months.

The City of Riverside Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department is a nationally recognized and award-winning Department that provides innovative recreational experiences and social enrichment opportunities to address the changing needs for people of all ages and cultures, in a variety of safe and attractive parks, trails, landscapes, and facilities.

These are exciting opportunities for engaging and energetic individuals who can instruct classes in one of the following areas:

  1. Recreational Arts Program: Strings/Violin/Cello, Ballet, and
    Ballet Folklorico
  2. Youth Innovation Center: S.T.E.A.M., Innovation or
    Technology
  3. Marketing: Sponsorship or Graphic Design
  4. Adaptive Sports
  5. Time for Tots

Instructors, under general direction, provide specialized recreation and/or education programs at various locations throughout the City. This is a broad class designed to cover several diverse areas of expertise that will allow the City to hire individuals with the skills and knowledge appropriate to the planned activity.

Work Performed

Duties may include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:

  • Teaching specialized arts and crafts programs
  • Instruction in various sports skills
  • Teaching appropriate social skills
  • Instruction in lifesaving skills

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Certification or registration may be required for some programs.

Highly Desirable Qualifications:

1) For Strings/Cello/Violin Instructor:

  • Experience in instructing violin and/or cello classes
  • 3+ years of experience in instructing violin and/or cello classes to a group of 5 or more individuals
  • 3+ years of experience in the creation and instruction of strings and or cello curriculum for a group of 5 or more youth

2) For Ballet Instructor:

  • Experience in instructing ballet classes
  • 3+ years of experience in instructing ballet to a group of 5 or more individuals
  • 3+ years of experience in the creation and instruction of ballet curriculum for a group of 5 or more youth

3) For Ballet Folklorico Instructor:

  • Experience in instructing ballet folklorico classes
  • 3+ years of experience in instructing ballet folklorico to a group of 5 or more individuals
  • 3+ years of experience in the creation and instruction of ballet folklorico curriculum for a group of 5 or more youth

4) For Adaptive Sports Instructor

  • 3+ years of experience coaching youth and adults with disabilities in adaptive sports
  • Knowledge and skills of how to implement soccer, basketball, baseball, and football to adaptive participants
  • Knowledge in adaptive sports equipment (e.g. wheelchairs/modified equipment)
  • Great sportsmanship

5)For Time for Tots Instructor

  • 3+ years' experience teaching youth ages 3-5
  • Knowledge in extracurricular activities for youth ages 3-5

6) For Marketing:

  • Experience with Creative Cloud applications
  • Basic design principles and a good understanding of branding and brand integration across different channels.
  • Knowledgeable in layouts, graphic fundamentals, typography, print and web

7)For Youth Innovation Center

  • One 1 year of experience tutoring/teaching small and large groups of students(particularly in computer sciences, multimedia, STEM, or a related field)
  • Experience with computers, printers, current software applications, and other multimedia technological equipment
  • Experience with laser cutters, electronic di-cut machines, 3D printer, sewing and embroidery machines, Mac and PC literate, film and recording equipment
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule
  • High School degree or equivalent (GED)
